7 toothpaste hacks to make your life easier

The invention of toothpaste has made washing our teeth more appealing and fun as we no longer have to put all sorts of odd stuff into our mouths in a bid to clean our teeth.

Back in the day, herbal leaves, charcoal, chewing sticks, and other weird items were used to maintain dental health.

History even has it on record that some people went as far as using urine: the Romans.

Apart from keeping our teeth clean, strong, and healthy, I bet you never knew that there are lots of other ways to make the most out of your toothpaste.

Toothpaste boasts an array of household uses that can make your daily life much easier. Stick with us as we take you on a trip through ten other ways that others have been putting their toothpaste to good use.

Ever handy deodorizer

Sometimes during the course of carrying out our daily house chores, we pick up some unpleasant, unsociable stinks that we don’t want sticking around us in public. Some good examples are onions and garlic smells.

Baking soda is a major ingredient in toothpaste which makes it a very good option for deodorizing as it can be used to get unwanted stinks out of the palms or used containers affected.

All you have to do is pop a little quantity of toothpaste on your palm and rub them together. Proceed to rinse with a lot of water. For affected cutleries, bowls, or containers, simply scrub against the affected areas and rinse with water, repeatedly.

Clean piano keys

Okay, this is my favorite one.

If you are a piano, organ, or keyboard player then you’ll be quite familiar with those annoying yellowish or brownish stains that taint our precious ivory keys after years of usage.

Restoring that bright white color is as easy as adding a little pop of WHITE toothpaste on a damp cloth and wiping across the stains. Wipe again with a damp cloth when done to clean up properly.

To make the process more effective, you can combine the cleaning power of the lactic acid in milk. Simply wipe clean with a cheesecloth dipped in whole milk after scrubbing with the toothpaste

Brighten up dirty white sneakers

Nearly every young adult is familiar with the struggle of maintaining the sparkle of white canvas or sneakers. They get stained easily and the beauty behind wearing them is having those white sneakers all bright and shiny when you step out for any occasion in them.

If you’ve been having issues with keeping your white sneakers squeaky clean then you don’t ever have to anymore. All you need is a little quantity of white toothpaste popped on a damp rag. Rub against the dirty surface on your shoes and leave for about 10 – 15 minutes to allow the cleaning agents in the paste to work their magic.

Finish off with a clean damp rag afterward and leave to dry.

Clear pimples and acne

Pimples and acne can be a pain in the ass as they have a knack for springing up just where they are never wanted. What’s worse is the fact that they don’t just spring up anywhere, they mostly do on our faces, compromising the aesthetic integrity.

Squirt a little quantity of non-gel, non-whitening toothpaste and rub it on the pimples, or the affected areas. Toothpaste helps to absorb the oil in pimples and acne, thereby dehydrating them. Do this preferably before going to bed and you should awake to your pimples all dried up.

Please note that this hack is not advisable for those who have sensitive skin as it may cause irritation.

Clean your iron

Having that thick dark patch glued to the bottom of your pressing iron can be really annoying. They make it impossible to iron as they won’t stop sticking to it and messing it up with stains.

Squirt some non-gel toothpaste and apply it on the surface of your cold iron. Get a clean dry rag to scrub and rinse off the mess with water.

Considering the fact that you are dealing with an electronic appliance, it is important to rinse off with as minimal water as possible. Also, ensure to get it completely dried before connecting it to the electricity.

Stop bug bite itch

Toothpaste can also help with fighting skin irritation and pains from bug bites. Apply a minimal amount on the affected area and watch it work its magic.

It can also be used to cool down the effect of burns, either from hot water, fire, or any other hot surface, on the skin.

Avoid fogging on mirrors or glass surfaces

Wiping your bathroom glass and mirrors with toothpaste before stepping in to have your bath can keep it from fogging when you step out. You don’t have to step out of the bathroom and start cleaning your mirror before getting to use them.

Having your bathroom glass partition clear of fog can also really be a lifesaver sometimes, as it helps with security. It makes it possible to have a clear view of what happens outside the bathroom as you bathe.

You can also you a little toothpaste wipe on your spectacles and goggles to stop you from having to clean the mist and fog every other time while swimming, skiing, or diving.
