Have you met Mayowa Nicholas, the 26-year-old Nigerian model who’s taking the fashion world by storm? From gracing the runways of top fashion houses to starring in global campaigns, Mayowa’s rise has been nothing short of phenomenal. With her striking looks and undeniable talent, she’s redefining what it means to be a force in the modeling industry. SONIA OKERE writes

How it all started
Born on May 22, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria, Mayowa never considered modeling until someone approached her to participate in a modeling contest. When she shared this news with friends, they told her she didn’t look like a model and wouldn’t succeed. Instead of letting those naysayers discourage her, Mayowa dedicated a year to studying modeling icons like Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks. Then in 2014, she auditioned for Elite Model Look contest and won.

At just 16 years old then, Mayowa experienced her first big break in the Elite Model Look competition. This victory opened doors for her to walk the runways of renowned brands like Balenciaga, Hermès, Kenzo, and Balmain.

To add to that, in 2018, she made her official debut at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and became one of the few African models to walk in this prestigious event. That moment didn’t just shine a spotlight on her talent, it marked the beginning of her journey as a recognized figure on the global fashion stage. Since then, she has appeared in campaigns for global brands like Fendi, Prada, Kenzo, Hermes and many others.
