“Food is life.” I mean, it is hard to go through a day without getting something to eat, unless you are fasting.
So, what does food do for your body? It nourishes you and keeps you healthy. Think of it like the fuel in your generator, which makes it possible for it to keep running.
However, unlike the generator, which constantly consumes fuel without any problems, we need a balanced diet to function.
According to Centers for Disease Control, consuming unhealthy food and beverages, such as sugar-sweetened beverages and highly processed food, can lead to weight gain, obesity and other chronic conditions that put people at higher risk of at least 13 types of cancer, including endometrial (uterine) cancer, breast cancer in postmenopausal women, and colorectal cancer. The risk of colorectal cancer is also associated with eating red and processed meat.
This is where some of us get it wrong. Instead of trying to eat healthy and balanced diet, we tend to favour some foods over others.
Those who favour healthier meals like vegetables, fruits, and potatoes, among others, hardly face any health consequences. However, there are some meals that, when consumed too frequently, damage the body, and these are the foods we will be examining today.
Ice cream
Ice cream gang, gather here. If you love taking ice cream daily, Baton Rouge Clinic studies warn that constant consumption of ice cream can lead to obesity and many other health challenges like diabetes.
But some people will say, “It helps to calm my nerves after a hard day’s work!”
Just understand that doing this will only lead to health complications far more expensive than your ice cream. So, if you have been part of the ice cream gang for a long time, it is better to quit right away.
For starters, you can have it at least once a month to prevent the excessive accumulation of sugar in the body. Nothing good comes from sugar except the taste.
Noodles
Preparing noodles is a breeze. Within a couple of minutes, you have a well-prepared meal without stress.
Some of us even have places where these noodles are prepared for us; it seems like the perfect breakfast. However, if you consume noodles a lot, you need to cut down on your consumption rate immediately.
This is because noodles contain a lot of artificial flavours and chemicals, which can be detrimental to health. In small quantities, you might not have a problem, but when it becomes an everyday thing, you are only compromising your immune system.
Baked goods
If you are a fan of baked goods, either prepared at home or bought in stores, then know that you’re consuming meals that contain an excessive amount of saturated fats and cholesterol.
Now, consuming these baked goods every day means getting too much of these saturated fats and cholesterol. This can lead to heart problems, which complicate life altogether. This is where self-discipline and moderation are essential.
Take home
Too much of anything is bad. Your body is like your home, and these foods are like trees you plant. If you plant and water these foods constantly, they might end up pulling down your foundation, and you know what that means. So, eat healthy; live healthy.
