Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a 17-year-old suspect identified as Wumi for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death.
This was disclosed by the State Police Command spokesperson, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami.
“The incident took place last Wednesday at the residence of the deceased in Oda, Akure, and the suspect is currently under our custody.
“We don’t know why she killed her foster mother who had nurtured her since childhood. ”
“Some members of the family claim that the suspect had mental health challenges. We are awaiting an official medical confirmation of this claim,” Odunlami said.
Furthermore, reports claim that the deceased served at the Ondo State Ministry of Finance, and she was 54 years old.
Still speaking on the case, a neighbor of the deceased recounts the incident: “Wumi allegedly stabbed her mother and locked her up so that nobody would help her.
“The woman sustained fatal injuries to her abdomen and died. It was after three days that her decomposing body was discovered.
“There were blood traces from her room to the sitting room. Obviously, she struggled to get help before bleeding to death.
“The knife that the suspect used to stab her was also found on the floor. It was truly a sad incident.”
Odunlami said the deceased has been transferred to the morgue while investigations continue.
