An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday sentenced 21-year-old Damilare Olanrewaju to five years’ imprisonment for fondling a 15-year-old girl’s breasts in public.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Rahman Oshodi also convicted Olanrewaju for sexually assaulting the girl by caressing her buttocks with his hands.
The convict had pleaded guilty to the amended two counts of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.
Oshodi, in his judgment, held that the court was satisfied that the convict understood the plea bargain agreement and was satisfied by the advice of his counsel.
He said: “I have found you guilty of indecent act and sexual assault contrary to section 134 and 263 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
“You are hereby sentenced to two years on count one and three years’ imprisonment on count two. The sentences shall run consecutively.
“The convict must undergo counseling through the Lagos state Domestic and Violence Agency (DSVA) in line with his plea bargain agreement.”
The judge added that the convict’s name be registered in the sexual offences register of the state.
Earlier, the State Counsel, Ms. Inumidun Solarin had informed the court that the attorney-general had approved five years sentence for the convict.
Solarin submitted that the convict publicly assaulted the girl in public, fondled her breast and sexual assaulted her by caressing her buttocks with his hands.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict committed the offence on Dec. 22, 2022 on Abutu Street, Elijah Bus Stop, Badagry Expressway, Lagos. (NAN)
