A fast-rising Nollywood star, Gbemi Anjola, on Friday died after a protracted battle with ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer refers to any cancerous growth that begins in the ovaries, the organ of the female body that produces eggs.
Ovarian cancer is now the fifth most common cause of cancer-related death among females, MedicalNewsToday states. Also, Cancer.org.au states that more than 1,300 people were diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022. The average age at diagnosis is 66 years old.
33-year-old Gbemi was diagnosed with the ailment in 2021. As a result of this, she traveled to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for chemotherapy which lasted about six months.
After her medical treatment in Dubai, she was said to have returned to the country after she was declared cancer-free. On Friday, the 25th of March, 2023, the actress complained of memory loss and headache.
She was rushed to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead.
The tragic news was shared by the late actor’s colleagues, Itele and Zainab Balogun, who mourned her on their Instagram pages.
Nkechi Blessing, Kunle Afod and Biodun Okeowo all took to their colleagues’ comment section to drop their condolences.
