Suspected bandits have reportedly killed over 40 persons after they attacked Zurak village in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
It was learnt that several houses were also set ablaze by the bandits during the attack, which occurred on Monday evening.
According to residents of the community, who confirmed the incident in Jos on Tuesday, the incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday, when people in the community were going about their normal activities but they could not report the incident due to the poor communication network in the area.
A youth leader in the area, Sahpi’i Sambo, who also confirmed the incident, said the bandits arrived the community on about three motorcycles, armed with sophisticated weapons and started shooting at everyone.
“More than 40 people were killed, while many others were injured. Residents of the village have reportedly fled to the neighbouring communities for safety. As of yesterday, security personnel had not yet arrived at the community. It was a deadly attack,” Sambo said.
Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Alabo Alfred, is yet to respond to media inquiry.
Same with the spokesman for the military task force in Plateau State, Samson Zhakom, who asked for time to get details of what transpired in the council area.
