Foreign countries experience varying seasons, but in Nigeria here, we experience rainy and dry seasons basically. The rains are predicted to pour with a vengeance in the remaining months of 2022, and while there are a lot of concerns, one of the things we have to worry about is our shoes.
As women, we purchase a lot of shoes – expensive and inexpensive – and we basically do not want these shoes to end up getting damaged or smelling bad in the rainy seasons. Here are some of the best ways to care for your shoes in the rainy season.
Freeze them
Never expected this, right? Well, it is more than getting home and sticking your shoes in the refrigerator. Whenever your shoes get wet as a result of the weather, you need to ensure that they are properly dried. Getting enough sunlight to dry your shoes might be difficult this season, so you might need to use your washing machine to dry them up. To ensure proper dryness, you might need to first mop off excess moisture using a small towel and with your hand dryer, take out the remaining moisture. After all of this, you need to double bag your shoe and then freeze it overnight to destroy odour-causing bacteria.
Water-proof your shoes
Waterproofing is one of the best ways to ensure that your shoes do not get damaged in the rainy season. Once done properly, water does not easily sink into the core of your shoes. This process involves the use of Vaseline, and here are some of the steps you need to take:
Put Vaseline all over the outer side of your shoes.
Use a blow dryer to push the Vaseline into the core of your shoe for that proper shine.
This should be done at least a day before you want to wear the shoe.
This prevents your shoe from getting damaged by water and also gives it that proper shine.
Rub in some alcohol
Using alcohol on your shoes allows you to protect your shoes and manage them properly in the rainy season. All you need to do is use cotton to dab some alcohol into the inner section of your shoes. Avoid allowing alcohol to touch the outer side of your shoes, especially the expensive leather shoes, to prevent any damage. Aside from the water damage, alcohol prevents your shoes from selling badly in the rainy season.
Powder your shoes
Aside from the outer section of your shoes, you need to also take care of the inner side of the shoes. One way to do this is to powder it with talcum powder which absorbs water and, of course, prevents any form of damage to the inner side of your shoes.
Wear Jelly Sandals
Compared to what you used to think before, there are lots and lots of jelly sandals which look great and are also very affordable. These jelly shoes are very fashionable, allowing you to look great when you put them on in the rainy season.
Bottom Line
With the rainy season ready to hit hard, as well as every other rainy season, these are some of the best ways to keep your shoes from getting damaged. This way, you can get new shoes because you want to, not because they get damaged after every rainy season.
