Six bodies were reportedly found at a music studio located at Ebis Mechanic Road in the Amarata area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and they are suspected to have died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to reports, the young men had been working all night at the studio and had used a generator for power.
However, by Tuesday morning, six of them were found dead, and the seventh person died after being rushed to the hospital.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Damion Asamonye, a resident, blamed the government for the deaths.
“I feel so bad about what happened. Some of the youngsters were students of Niger Delta University hustling to make ends meet. However, Nigeria failed them. The power supply over here is very poor. If not, no one would be using generators for long hours,” he said.
Mr. Asamonye also criticized the power distribution company, stating, “Seven able-bodied young men just died for nothing. The worst part is that by tomorrow, PHED officers will bring light bills. Then after paying light bills, we are still forced to spend money buying fuel for generators.”
Police Public Relations Officer Musa Mohammed has confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa for autopsy.
