Preparing rice water for hair treatment

There are three different methods for this: regular rice water straining, parboiling, and fermenting. According to sources, each of them is effective, even though history favors fermentation ahead of the other processes.

Regular method

A spray bottle

Get half a cup of raw rice. Wash it thoroughly to get rid of dirt and other debris. Then pour it into an airtight container. Add 2-3 cups of water, close the container and allow it to sit at room temperature overnight.

Then strain the rice water into an empty spray bottle for ease of use. Spray the rice water on your hair and massage it to ensure it soaks in properly.

Parboiled method
Get half a cup of rice and cook in a pot. Strain the water into a separate container when the rice is halfway cooked and leave to cool. Proceed to rinse your hair with the rice water when cooled.

Fermentation method
Pour half a cup of rice into a container and add about 2-3 cups of water. Cover the mixture and leave it for 2–3 days at room temperature before straining the water into a clean bowl.

Rinse your hair with the rice water and keep the remaining in the refrigerator to stop it from further fermentation.
