Adamawa Government, with support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID’s) State2State activity, has reviewed the 1968 Financial Instructions (FIs) for transparency, accountability and effectiveness in governance.
Speaking at the review session on Thursday in Yola, Ms Suzanne Myada, Adamawa State2State team lead said, Adamawa was still implementing FIs of the defunct Gongola that were never reviewed since 1991.
Myada represented by Mr Allahdon Kenan, Adamawa State2State Public Financial Manager, said FIs meant to support achievement of four major budgetary goals.
“Overall fiscal discipline, effective allocation of resources to strategic priorities, efficient delivery of public services in a manner that propagates economic growth and improved livelihoods and value for money public procurement,” he said.
Myada explained that the objectives of developing the FIs, was to align with the state’s recent Public Financial Management laws and regulations.
The aim he said, was also to provide uniform standards for the administration of public funds/resources.
Mr Ismail Adeleye, the resource person of the event, called on the participants to work hard and apply the knowledge acquired into practice for effective service delivery.
According to him, the review is solely the responsibility of state government but the intervention of State2State will make it easier and faster.
He added that whatever was done at the review meeting, would not be the final until it was endorsed by the authorities.
In his remarks, Salihu Sabana, Director Tax, Adamawa Board of Internal Revenue, commended State2State for its numerous support and reforms to ensure accountability and good governance.
He said that USAID interventions, had helped the state and officials in improving their services. (NAN (www.nannews.ng )
