The Anambra State Government has taken swift action against SALITZ International Ventures, suspending their waste management operations in Onitsha and other parts of the state due to alleged human rights violations.
This decision was made after a disturbing incident on October 11, 2024, where operatives of the firm brutally assaulted Mr. Akaneme Okechukwu, a former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce.
The government’s letter, titled ‘Suspension of Operations Pending Investigation,’ emphasises that there will be no tolerance for human rights abuse by any agent carrying out official duties.
The letter dated November 18, and signed by Tochukwu Obodogha, Permanent Secretary for the Honorable Commissioner, also informs SALITZ International Ventures that their operating license has been temporarily suspended until the investigation is concluded.
The letter partly read: “Consequent to these circumstances, this letter serves to:
“Suspend all operations of Salitz International Ventures with immediate effect pending the full investigation’s outcome.
“Require your full cooperation with the ongoing investigative proceedings.
“Inform you that the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA) has been directed to temporarily suspend your waste management operating license, pending the outcome of the investigation.”
The letter added that the State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward “any form of human rights abuse in the discharge of official duties by any of its agents.”
