In a poignant conclusion to the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori laid wreaths at the feet of the Unknown Soldiers on Monday [today] in Asaba, the state capital.
The solemn gathering at the cenotaph brought together political leaders, members of the state House of Assembly, security chiefs, traditional leaders, and various stakeholders. They united to pay tribute to the war veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefield. Governor Oborevwori meticulously inspected guards of honor mounted by the Nigerian Army, Airforce, Navy, and members of the Nigerian Legion.
Amongst the attendees was the State Coordinator of the Military Widows Association (MiWA) and other widows, who collectively called on governments at all levels to prioritize the welfare of the families of fallen heroes, expressing concern over their perceived neglect.
The high point of the event was marked by Governor Oborevwori’s symbolic release of pigeons, signifying a commitment to peace and the collective determination to avoid any actions that could lead to violence or war.
