Avoid condom boxers, let your testes breathe!

A medical doctor and social media influencer, Dr. Jeremiah Jackson Penking, has warned men against wearing condom boxers.

Dr. Penking on his X account @drpenking says condom boxers are bad for men’s health because they are very tight and drag the scrotum and testes to your body.

Boxer shorts, according to Wikipedia, are a type of undergarment typically worn by men. The term ‘boxer shorts’ has been in use in the English language since 1944 to describe all-around elastic shorts, which derive their name from the shorts worn by boxers. These shorts are designed to facilitate unrestricted leg movement, a vital aspect for boxers

According to Dr. Penking, there is a reason why men’s testes are inside their scrotum and that there is also a reason why the scrotum are saggy. “It is because sperm production requires a temperature lower than the temperature of the rest of the body.

“So, your scrotum in this saggy position gives the testes that optimum temperature; but when you wear condom boxers, which pull your testes up to your body, the process of sperm production is impaired. The result of this, is that men who wear tight pants and condom boxers have a lower sperm count than other men. This has been proven by medical research,” he explained.

The medical doctor had earlier in 2022 posted the warning. Again, he posted the warning last week, advising men against wearing tight and condom boxers.

While he clarified that tight boxers and tight jeans don’t make you look sexy; he stated that it only renders you infertile. “Let the testes breathe, don’t suffocate them. You have that responsibility,” he stressed.

A 2018 study found lower sperm count in people who wear tight underwear, though more research on the topic is needed. The thought is that wearing tight underwear increases the temperature of the scrotum, much like going into a hot tub or placing a laptop on your lap, which affects the body’s production of sperm.

A publication by online platform ForMen.health on why men should never wear tight underwear noted that tight underwear can create a ‘heat trap’ around the genital area, causing temperatures to rise and affecting sperm quality.

It further added that wearing tight underwear can reduce blood circulation due to the tight elastic. It can also reduce the blood flow to the penis and testicles and also to the thighs.

“Less blood flow to the penis can lead to Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Other effects of wearing tight underwear are: It increases the chance of skin irritation and infections; affects sperm health and reduces sperm count and fertility; varicoceles, that is, swollen veins in the scrotum, which can affect male fertility; and urinary tract issues.

A study published recently in a journal of Human Reproduction has found lowered sperm count in people who chose to wear tight-fitting undergarments.

For couples aiming to conceive, fertility is an issue which is linked to low sperm count. In many cases, medical professionals recommend simple changes, such as changing one’s choice of underwear, to enhance the chances of conceiving.

Ideally, the male reproductive system positions the testicles outside the body, maintaining a lower temperature than the core body temperature. Elevated heat levels can significantly impact fertility, and it has been discovered that consistently wearing briefs can lead to overheating of the testes.

Prioritize underwear designs that provide excellent ventilation

How to choose healthier alternatives
To mitigate the potential risks associated with tight underwear, experts suggest that individuals have healthier options to consider including, choosing breathable fabrics; selecting the right size; avoiding overly tight styles; being mindful of activities you will be engaging in while wearing underwear and maintaining hygiene practices to prevent infections and skin irritation.

* Begin by measuring yourself to ensure you select the correct size, avoiding underwear that might be either too snug or overly loose.

* Keep your physique in mind and opt for underwear styles that complement your body, preventing any unsightly bulges.

* Select a fabric that aligns with your comfort preferences, and it’s advisable to avoid materials like satin or silk.

* Prioritize underwear designs that provide excellent ventilation, such as boxers, for enhanced breathability.
