Bauchi community kills hunter mistaken for robber

Two individuals were killed in Bauchi State, the Police Command has confirmed via a Press release signed by the state command Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.

One of the victims was killed after he was mistaken for armed robber; while the other victim was killed by persons suspected to belong to a rival group.

Wakil, who issued the release on Thursday, said the Police received a distress call from Gwallameji that a group of hunters led by Commander Saidu Musa, ‘M’ 49-year-old, armed with machetes and guns, were at the area to apprehend an unidentified person following a complaint by one Ibrahim Lado, a resident of Hajiya Amina Lodge, Gwallameji; and residents mistook them for armed robbers and responded forcefully, overpowering and injuring them.

“Therefore, one of the hunters, Nasiru Adam, ‘M’, a 27-year-old resident of Tani-Yola, sustained severe injuries. Despite being rushed to ATBUTH for medical attention, Adam was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

“Also, three of their motorcycles were burnt,” Wakil said.

“He was attacked and stabbed in the stomach and neck by an unknown person suspected to be a member of the rival group in the Bakin Kura area. Despite being taken to the Specialists Hospital, Bauchi, for medical examination, he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the PPRO stated.

Wakil reported that the command has directed tactical commanders, area commanders, and DPOs to thoroughly search the state to apprehend the suspects, stating that a discreet investigation has been ordered to uncover the circumstances leading to the deaths of the two individuals.

The PPRO said, “There is a heavy deployment of officers throughout the night, and every corner of the state will be thoroughly searched to ensure the arrest of those responsible.”
