Bauchi inaugurates 11-member committee on new minimum wage

The Bauchi state government has inaugurated an 11-member Tripartite Technical Committee, to fasttrack implementation of the new National Minimum Wage.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that membership of the committee comprises representatives of the state government, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The NLC chairman in the state, Dauda Shuaibu, said this at a news conference on Friday in Bauchi.

He said the development was sequel to a meeting between the organised labour and members of the State Executive Council (SEC).

Shuaibu said the committee has approved N70, 000 minimum wage for workers in the state.

“This development marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance the living standard of workers,” he said.

According to Shuaibu, the objective is to develop modalities for the payment of the national minimum wage to workers, adding that its membership derived from various sources of salary structure in the state.

“The committee is set to begin work immediately with negotiations commencing from Oct. 4.
