In a disturbing incident that unfolded at Ibikunle Street, Merit Bus Stop in Alagbado end of Lagos State, Clarita Chianugo Obiajulu, a caregiver to four-year-old Iremide Sunday, has been arrested for allegedly subjecting the child to extreme cruelty.
The incident reportedly stemmed form a disagreement between the child’s mother, Mrs. Tosin Sunday, and Clarita.
Clarita is said to have been entrusted with the care of Iremide. Howeever, Mrs. Sunday involved the Police after seeing the injuries allegedly inflicted on her daughter by Clarita.
Clarita was subsequently arrested. She was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Police Command for thorough interrogation. Clarita was later arraigned at the Ogba Magistrates’ Court.
During the court proceedings, Clarita pleaded not guilty to the charges, and Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, the prosecutor, requested the court to set another hearing date to allow the police to further substantiate the allegations despite the defendant’s denials.
Responding to this, Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. A. Layinka, granted Clarita bail in the sum of N200,000 along with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties must provide evidence of their means of livelihood and tax payments, with their addresses verified by the court.
The case has been adjourned for mention, and in the meantime, Clarita has been remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre in Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions.
