Centre trains over 1,800 on school safety

In a bid to address the menace of attack on schools in Nigeria, the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC) has trained no fewer than 1,892 persons in the past eight months of its inauguration.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday; noting that the trained persons comprised personnel of the NSCDC, operatives of private security companies and members of different neighbourhood watch groups.

He disclosed that at least 48 attacks on schools have so far been thwarted.

Speaking ahead of the maiden national summit themed ‘Tackling Identified threats in the Nigerian Safe Schools Project,’ scheduled to hold on November 2, the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, commended the support given to the NSSRCC by some state governments within the period in view.

Audi therefore encouraged other stakeholders to support the Safe Schools implementation project, stressing the need for a collective resolve to end the menace of attacks on schools.
