The former presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party in the 2019 general elections, Kingsley Moghalu, says swapping the national anthem for the 1960 edition will not solve any of Nigeria’s problems.
Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, stated this via his X handle @MoghaluKingsley on Thursday.
Moghalu had tweeted:
Changing the national anthem in Nigeria will not solve any of Nigeria’s problems, not least the challenge of building a nation. Needed: leadership ACTION, not words, fairness, not prejudice, inclusion, not exclusion, a nation-spirit, not tribal-spirit, justice, not injustice.

Moghalu’s reaction to the change of the national anthem is coming on the heels of the passage of a bill to that effect by the National Assembly and its signing into law by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
On the same day, Tinubu announced during his address to the National Assembly the reversion to Nigeria’s first post-independence national anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee.’
