A climate and environmental advocate serving as the Team Lead for the Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation, Mr. Michael David, emphasized the significant role of food waste, particularly during the Christmas season, in fueling global warming.
David explained that the accumulation of excess greenhouse gases, including methane, carbon dioxide (CO2), and chlorofluorocarbons, has a detrimental impact on the earth’s atmosphere.
These gases absorb infrared radiation, contributing to the heating of the planet and subsequently leading to global warming and climate change.
The environmentalist called for increased awareness regarding the environmental consequences of food waste, emphasizing the need for responsible consumption practices, especially during festive periods.
By reducing the amount of discarded food, individuals can contribute to mitigating the adverse effects of greenhouse gas emissions of the environment.
