A clergy in Nasarawa State, Dr Lawrence Soja- Anyembugu, has urged the state government to immortalise the first Catholic Priest in the state, Rev. Fr Christopher Chindo.
This, he said, would enable the people and yet unborn children to remember the late man of God’s contribution to the development of the Church and the society at large.
Soja-Anyembugu, who is the Parish Priest of St Kizito’s Catholic Church Nasarawa, made the call in a Homily of the Memorial Mass on the First Anniversary of the death of Rev.Fr. Chindo in St Theresa Catholic Church Wamba.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that Chindo was the first Catholic President in Nasarawa State, ordained in 1969. The man of God prayed to God for the repose of the soul of Chindo.
“I am also honoured to do the bidding of giving the homily on this day. We come together to celebrate his life, his legacy and his dedication to the lord and his people.
“Fr Christopher Chindo was that big brother and father that paved the way for all other priests and religious in the Diocese to tread on,” he said.
Lawrence said that the late man of God was a faithful servant of the church, a devoted shepherd and compassionate guide.
“He spent his lifetime proclaiming the good news, administering the sacraments and serving the poor and the marginalised. His ministry was marked by his humility, kindness and generosity,” the man of God said.
The clergy said that the late man of God had touched and influenced people positively.
“Fr Chindo had a special place in his heart for the sick, the elderly and the lonely. He visited the hospitalized, the homebound and the imprisoned, bringing them comfort, hope and the healing presence of Christ,” he said.
The man of God used the medium to call on Christians and other Nigerians to live an exemplary lives in order to inherit the kingdom of God.
Lawrence appreciated the Bishop of the Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, Dr David Ajang, for naming a College in Wamba as Christopher College Wamba, after the late Priest.
“We thank the Bishop of Lafia Diocese for naming a College after Fr Christopher to immortalize his name. Last Year the Emir of Wamba requested the State Government to name a major road after him, we are still waiting,” the man of God said.(NAN)
