Miss Comfort Kendima, an National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Kafanchan, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has renovated a damaged borehole to alleviate the acute water shortage in the community.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Aduwan 1, a community in Kafanchan, had struggled with a lack of potable water until Kendima’s intervention.
Other community projects undertaken by the corps member included training women in liquid soap making, distributing sanitary pads to schoolgirls, and raising awareness about cholera and cancer.
At the inauguration of the renovated borehole on Saturday, Kendima stated, “I undertook this project out of my desire to make a positive impact on the community.”
Kendima expressed gratitude to those who supported her, acknowledging that the harsh economic climate in the country limited the scope of her projects.
Alhaji Mahmood Kaura, Kaduna State NYSC Coordinator, commended Kendima’s selflessness, noting that her projects aligned with the scheme’s community service initiative.
Represented by Bowman Joshua, a Zonal NYSC Inspector, Kaura assured that Kendima’s efforts would be recognised.
Also, Thomas Musa, Chairman of the Aduwan 1 Community Development Association, thanked Kendima, describing her as a blessing to the community.
“The renovated borehole will save our community members from trekking long distances for water.
“Previously, we shared stream water with animals, which was unsanitary. Kendima’s name will be etched in our community’s history,” Musa said. (NAN)
