Court remands 10 over unlawful possession of firearms

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, on Friday remanded 10 men in a Correctional facility for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The defendants include Mufutau Hammed, 46, Monsuru Salami, 35; Ifalola Johnson, 30; Rauf Dauda, 30; Lukman Salami, 45.

Others are Nurudeen Hammed, 30, Rasak Alimi, 30; Nurudeen Sodiq, 30; Suleman Hassan, 27 and Hassan Abdulahi, 20.

They are facing a three-count charge of unlawful possession of firearms, assault and breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. Olagbenro, who did not take their pleas, ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Olagbenro adjourned the case until Nov. 4, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Sept. 28, at Iseyin, Oyo State.

Adedosu said the police caught the defendants with three locally made barrel guns, two locally made Dane guns and two life cartridges without lawful authority.

She said the defendants also assaulted Mr Abdulazeez Lukman and Mr Oluwole Akinkunmi, by slapping them.

Adedosu said that the defendants were likely to breach the peace, by invading a farmland with arms and assaulting the complainants.

She said the offences contravened Sections 6(b) and 3 of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004. (NAN)
