The Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Olatunji Disu has pledged to ensure periodic training for personnel of the Nigeria Police in the FCT.
Disu made the pledge on Wednesday in Abuja during the passing out parade of 67 police officers from a two-week intensive training programme organised by the Police Command in the FCT.
The CP said the personnel were trained in arms handling, riot handling, stripping and assembling of firearms as well as proficiency in the use of weapons.
“This is the end of the training exercise for officers of the Police Command in the FCT.
“They have been here for the past two weeks, undergoing intensive training on arms handling, riot handling, stripping and assembling of firearms and proficiency in the use of weapons.
“This training programme is going to be periodic as directed by the Inspector General of Police (I-G) that all CPs should ensure periodic training and retraining of their officers,” he said.
According to him, with this, we have been able to bring back quick intervention force because the officers will be going back to their various Area Commands to quell any uprising.
Disu said the trainees were drawn from the various Police Divisions in the FCT, adding that they had shown proficiency from their various displays.
The CP commended the I-G and the FCT Minister for their support in making the training exercise a reality. (NAN)
