Gunmen suspected to be members of a cult group have invaded a community in Rivers State and allegedly shot six people. Two persons out of the six shot are feared dead.
The cultists invaded Ikem Community in Etche, Etche Local Government Area of the state yesterday’s evening, under heavy gunfire.
Though the information on the invasion was sketchy, it was gathered that the cultists had shot several persons.
It was further gathered that while two persons were feared dead, four other victims were in a critical condition.
A community source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that efforts were made for police to rescue the situation, but there was no security presence.
The source said the cultists operated freely for over two hours and left unhindered despite a police Division standing about 10 minutes away from the community.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), reportedly had confirmed the attack.
She was quoted as saying the District Police Officer in the area had mobilised to the scene to find out the situation of things.
She noted that the DPO upon completion of visit would make report of preliminary investigation known.
