The Dangote Refinery is set to roll out its first batch of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, for local consumption.
The announcement was made by its chairman, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
While briefing the media at the Dangote Refinery in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, Dangote thanked President Bola Tinubu for making the dream of local petrol refining possible.
He also thanked Nigerians for their moral support and the media for their unbiased reportage of the Dangote Refinery’s progress from inception to the present time.
Dangote, who showcased the final product of petrol to the media, explained that local refining of the product will save the country from the recurring crisis of sourcing foreign exchange for importation.
He later took the media team on a facility tour of the $20 billion refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
Petrol from the Dangote Refinery comes at a time when Nigerians are struggling to obtain the product, with long queues at filling stations nationwide.
