Dele Farotimi released from detention

After weeks in custody linked to a legal dispute involving senior lawyer Afe Babalola, Nigerian human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been released from detention in Ekiti State.

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), announced Farotimi’s release on Tuesday via his official X handle.

Sowore wrote, “I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti State and is now returning home to Lagos,” adding, “the struggle continues! Happy holidays to you all!”

Details surrounding the conditions of Farotimi’s release remain limited, but sources indicate that he is currently en route to Lagos.

Farotimi, a vocal advocate for justice and transparency in governance, has been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s legal and activist circles. His detention had sparked widespread concern among supporters and human rights organizations.
