Developer commends Enugu Govt for ENGIS inauguration

The inauguration of the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS), is an answered prayer to Genuine Real Estate Practitioners in Enugu State, Managing Director, Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Mr. Chibuikem Onyekachi has said.

Governor Peter Mbah had on Monday unveiled the Enugu State Geographic Information System. Inaugurating the system, Governor Mbah described it as a transformative milestone that will eliminate challenges such as land grabbing, unauthorised constructions, double allocations, and revenue leakages in the state’s land management processes.

The ENGIS initiative he said was made possible by the Enugu State Geographic Information System Service Bill, signed into law by Mbah in March 2024.

Reacting in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, Onyekachi, commended the administration, noting that ENGIS is an ultra-modern land management system that offers unparalleled benefits to the real estate sector, particularly in streamlining the process of securing land titles.

He posited that, with ENGIS, land applications can be processed online within 48 hours because the system eliminates the delays that often hinder property transactions: adding that this innovation not only reduces operational costs for developers and investors but also promotes a seamless property acquisition experience essential for boosting investor confidence.

Onyekachi, an Architect, noted that the availability of precise geospatial data through ENGIS would revolutionize urban planning and development.

He explained that real estate developers and urban planners could now make informed decisions on land use, zoning, and project siting, adding that this level of data accuracy encourages strategic growth while ensuring projects align with the broader objectives of sustainable urbanization in the state.

He highlighted that another key feature of ENGIS is its impact on the ease of obtaining construction permits, a crucial aspect for real estate developers.

“For us, the property developers, the system is a game-changer in resolving long-standing challenges such as double allocations and unauthorized encroachments, as it provides a centralized, verifiable database of land records, thus ensuring that property ownership disputes are minimized, thereby creating a reliable environment for transactions. This reliability is critical for long-term planning and project execution in the real estate industry.

“The availability of precise geospatial data through ENGIS will also revolutionize urban planning and development. Real estate developers and urban planners can now make informed decisions on land use, zoning, and project siting.
