Two haulage drivers , Abdullahi Yahaya and Abduljabar Jubril, were on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged diversion of N54m worth of spaghetti.
Yahaya, 48 and Jubril, 39 whose addresses were not mentioned are facing two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp John Iberedem, told the court that the duo committed the offences between 17 and 18 of Feb. 2024 within Lagos.
Iberedem alleged that on Feb. 18, at Shagamu Road, the duo were entrusted to convey a haulage of 4,725 packets of Honeywell spaghetti valued N54 million.
“They conspired with others at large, diverted and stole same property belonging to IOS Global Logistic Ltd.”, he said.
He explained that the fraudulent act was discovered when goods did not reach the supposed designation as expected.
Iberedem said the offence contravened Sections 287(9) (b) (c) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 287(9) prescribes seven years imprisonment if found guilty for stealing by agents, etc; if anything stolen has been received by the offender with a power of attorney for its disposition.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N3million each with two sureties in like sum.
She stated that the sureties must be gainfully employed with proof of tax payments and an affidavit of verification.
Kubeinje adjourned the matter until June 26 for mention. (NAN)
