Ebonyi State governor’s wife, Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, has pledged to breathe new life into the dormant Women Development Center for Empowerment within the state.
She made the announcement during a courtesy visit to her office by some officials of the Civil Defense Officers Wives Association (CDOWA).
Mrs Nwifuru emphasized that the skill acquisition center at the WDC would play a crucial role in supporting and equipping women-led community pressure groups. Its mission is to provide knowledge, resources, and skills necessary for challenging social injustices affecting women and children.
Highlighting the significance of the center’s reactivation, she expressed optimism that it would enhance the livelihoods of women and youths, contributing to the overall betterment of the larger society.
She urged women to foster peace in their respective environments and engage in positive initiatives to uplift their families.
In a related development, Mrs. Josephine Elijah, Chairperson, CDOWA, disclosed the association’s plans to establish a self-defense academy with the aim to teach basic self-defense techniques and promote security consciousness among primary and secondary school children.
Elijah emphasized that the primary objective of the association is to empower officers’ wives by harnessing their potential. She underscored the urgency of the initiative in the face of rising incidents of rape, abduction and sexual harassment in society.
The governor’s wife noted that the reactivation of the Women Development Centre aligns with ongoing efforts to empower women and create a safer environment for the community, and reflect a commitment to addressing social challenges and promoting positive change.
