The Nigeria media has lost one of its own in active service, as a reporter with Tribune newspaper, Tijani Yinusa, collapsed at the National Assembly on Wednesday while covering the screening of the three ministerial nominees.
This is briefly after the ministerial nominee from Kaduna State, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, had also collapsed during his screening.
Tijani was subsequently rushed to the SGF (Secretary to the Government of the Federation)’s clinic, where he was pronounced dead. He has been buried in his home State of Kwara according to Islamic rites.
In his own case, Abbas, the 65-yr-old ministerial nominee, slumped while being screened on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.
During his screening, Abbas abruptly passed out.
Concerned senators raced to his aid and promptly dialed for help. As soon as the incident occurred, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, requested for water and sugar to revive the ministerial nominee. He also directed that one Dr. Wale be called in.
Abbas was then taken to the hospital within the complex.
Abbas, from Kaduna State, underwent screening alongside Jamila Bio Ibrahim from Kwara State and Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State.
Abbas was nominated by President Bola Tinubu as a replacement for the former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
All the three nominees were subsequently confirmed by the Senate.
