Enugu Govt mows down buildings linked to alleged ritualist

The Enugu State Government has demolished buildings reportedly belonging to a billionaire native doctor, identified as Ọzọ Ezeani, popularly known as ‘E dey play, e dey show.’

He was suspected of burying a pregnant woman alive in his house in Ụmụmba Ndiagu, Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state.

The buildings, our Correspondent gathered, were demolished on Tuesday night after the news of his alleged activities broke out, with villagers taking the law into their own hands.

A video clip of the demolition shared with our Correspondent shows one of the two-storey buildings being demolished by excavators.

A voice was overheard in the video saying, “This is one of the buildings used for kidnappings in Ezeagu, Ụmụmba Ndiagu and tonight, this building is going down as directed by his Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah.

“Enugu State has zero tolerance for any form of criminality. Today, the security busted them, make some arrest with series of evidence. Some of the buildings have actually gone down and this one is equally going down tonight.

“So, if you are a criminal, a kidnapper or a ritualist, it is better you leave Enugu State as well.”

Meanwhile, some Ezeagu native doctors have denounced the billionaire native doctor, noting that he isn’t one of them.

The native doctors stated this during a peaceful march on Wednesday morning at various communities in Ezeagu local government area, insisting that the allegedly murderous native doctor Ezeani is not one of them.

The native doctors, who spoke in Igbo language, said: “Ezeani is not our member. You don’t use guns to do native doctor. He is a money ritualist and not a native doctor. Those shooting guns cannot be claiming that they’re native doctor. All the killers, ritualists, evil-doers and criminals should leave Ezeagu for us.

“We use herbs and shrubs to heal people. We give herbs that help women conceive child; we don’t kill women with their pregnancy. It is abomination.”

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when angry villagers of Unojo Umumba Ndi-Agu in Ezeagu on Tuesday rose against suspected ritualists in their community and beaten them black and blue after one of them was allegedly caught with a 13-year-old child said to have been used for money ritual popularly known as Oke-Ite.

According to community sources, the villagers had reportedly heard cries of a child in his compound.

“When they tried to find out where the child’s cries were coming from, knowing that there’s no small children in Ezeani’s house, the youths moved into the house forcefully and saw the little child.

“Further checks reportedly showed what appeared to be a soakaway pit in his home, but it turned out to be a mass grave, filled with the decomposing human, including pregnant women.”

“The development soon resulted in rage, as villagers burned down all the buildings in the suspect’s compound, as well as vehicles. They also dug up holes inside the buildings and reportedly discovered human remains in them.”
