FCCPC vows to protect rights of PWDs

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council has promised to do all within its powers to ensure the rights and inclusiveness of all Nigerians, including Persons with Disabilities.

The council’s Deputy Director of Consumer and Business Education, Nwafor Anthony,
stated this Monday in Abuja while speaking at a policy roundtable on financial inclusion for Persons with Disabilities, organised by the Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation.

He said, “The council is already engaging in several campaigns aimed at drawing the need to ensure inclusivity and also provide an adequate environment for persons with special needs to access all sorts of services without any form of discrimination. We will continue to fight for Nigerians’ rights to be respected.”

In her remarks, CADEF Executive Director, Prof Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, highlighted the need to address the challenges faced by PWDs in accessing digital financial services.

She said the meeting was organised so that stakeholders could brainstorm to come up with ideas to address the challenges which were both online and off line.

Ndukwe-Okafor listed inadequate infrastructure and poor policy framework as the major causes of the challenges faced.

She said, “Key recommendations from this meeting will provide a framework that will guide future efforts in addressing the menace and ensuring that all persons with disabilities access the services without any form of stress and under the best possible conditions.”
