Jamima Shetima Balami, a young female student at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa State, is believed to have committed suicide.
The 24-year-old was a National Diploma II Mass Communication student who was about to complete her Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV) in Yola when she died.
Balami, who came from Garkida Gombi, was reportedly found dead at her residence in Vinikilang, also known as Hayin Gada, in the Girei Local Government Area of the state.
It is believed that she ingested a substance suspected to be rat poison.
According to reports, prior to her death, Balami’s boyfriend, said to be a university lecturer, had asked her to end their relationship.
The father of the deceased reported the matter to the police, and the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Monday.
He explained that the matter had been reported in two different versions, but the police have promised to investigate the matter thoroughly to determine the true cause of the young woman’s death.
