Friends mourn as two brothers drown in Lagos beach

Two men who are said to be children of the same parents have drowned in Lagos.

The young men, a 26-year-old Femi Adegboyega and 23-year-old Ibukun Adegboyega, reportedly drowned while swimming at the Ibeshe Beach in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident happened on Christmas Day at about 6:00pm.

It was also gathered that the deceased were swimming with their friends before the disaster and that they were siblings who resided in the FESTAC Town area of the state.

An eyewitness, Seun, who claimed to have been together with them before the incident, expressed his condolences to the deceased’s parents.

He said, “We were swimming together on the beach. To be honest, I do not understand how it happened because we were together and all of a sudden they both drowned.

“I wonder how their parents will feel now because they are brothers and I also feel terrible because we could not help.”

Another eyewitness identified as Femi said all efforts by the friends and divers at the beach to rescue the siblings proved abortive.

“All efforts by friends and local divers to rescue them from Ibeshe Beach did not work. The divers searched the beach but their bodies have not been found.

“We swam for a long time, searching for them to no avail. I strongly believe their bodies will be found soon.

‘We informed the police about it quickly before the situation escalated. I pray their bodies will be found. I pray everything works well.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and disclosed that divers had been hired to find the bodies, while investigation is underway, noting that the deceased’s family had already been notified.

Hundeyin said, “Divers have been employed to locate the bodies and the family of the deceased are already informed and the investigation is ongoing.
