From homelessness to UNILAG: A street urchin’s tale of triumph

A university new intake, popularly known as Jambite, has narrated his journey from being a homeless child 12 years ago to being a Fresher at one of Nigeria’s most respected tertiary institutions, the University of Lagos.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle @Keyinde18 on Saturday [today], Kehinde had tweeted: “I’m officially a student of the University of Lagos today.

“12 years ago, I had no hope of a future. I was out of school and homeless till @thedestinytrust met me.

“My story changed ever since. I’m happy and grateful for God’s goodness. I thank all the good people who give hope.”

The Destiny Trust is a Lekki, Lagos State-based nongovernmental organization that claims to “educate, empower and care for homeless children and other classes of young people in disadvantaged circumstances.”

Tweeting at their beneficiary, the organization says, “Kehinde starts a beautiful journey in the prestigious University of Lagos today.

“Life didn’t give him the room to dream as a child – living homeless as a child, hustling for survival. One meeting where destinies collided changed his trajectory and gave him the power to dream.”
