The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have pledged to deepen their collaboration in order to enhance traffic management and ensure the safety of motorists on Lagos roads,
Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, said this collaboration will help both agencies better serve the people of Lagos and address the challenges of the city’s growing traffic demands.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the newly appointed Sector Commander of the FRSC Lagos Sector, Mr. Ganiyu Kehinde Hamzat, to LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, at the agency’s headquarters in Oshodi.
During the meeting, which was attended by senior officials from both agencies, Mr. Hamzat emphasized the importance of synergy between LASTMA and the FRSC in achieving their shared goals of ensuring seamless traffic flow and safeguarding motorists.
“Our joint mission, as agencies responsible for traffic management and road safety, is to guarantee unobstructed vehicular movement while protecting the lives of road users. Closer collaboration will allow us to more effectively tackle the complex traffic challenges that Lagos faces,” said Mr. Hamzat.
In response, Mr. Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with the FRSC. He outlined ongoing efforts to enhance the professionalism of LASTMA officers, including continuous training programs aimed at improving the operational standards and conduct of personnel on Lagos roads.
“LASTMA is dedicated to ensuring that our officers are well-trained and equipped to handle the dynamic traffic situation in Lagos. We are seeing positive results, particularly in the improved attitudes and behaviors of our personnel. Strengthening our partnership with the FRSC is a crucial step in delivering better services to Lagosians,” Mr. Bakare-Oki stated.
He said the significant progress in LASTMA’s emergency response capabilities, highlighting the agency’s new international-standard toll-free call center (080000527862), which has improved response times for road incidents.
The meeting signalled a key milestone in the ongoing efforts to reinforce cooperation between LASTMA and the FRSC. Both agencies have reiterated their commitment to working together for the overall improvement of traffic management and road safety in Lagos.
