The Nigerian Books of Record has appointed female talking drummer, Aralola Olamuyiwa, as its cultural ambassador.
The Nigerian Books of Record (NBR) is a reference/Official Book of Record of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for documenting good records held by Nigerians.
Olamuyiwa took to her Facebook page on Saturday to disclose this, with a display of the appointment letter.
She said “🎉 Grateful & Honoured! 🏆. I’m beyond excited to share that I’ve been recognised with the position of Cultural Ambassador of the @Nigerianbooksofrecord.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, my amazing team, family, friends, and mentors. Your encouragement means the world to me. 💫
“This is just the beginning! Looking forward to continuing the journey and achieving even more together.”
The letter read: “We are delighted to appoint you as the Cultural Ambassador of the Nigerian Books of Record (NBR), recognising your outstanding contributions to promoting Nigerian heritage, culture, and artistic excellence.
“Your exceptional talent as Africa’s first female talking drummer, songwriter, entertainer, choreographer, singer, producer, and philanthropist has made you a shining example of Nigerian creativity and innovation.
“Your dedication to preserving and projecting Nigerian culture through music and your iconic talking drum has inspired countless individuals.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that gangan, a talking drum, is an hourglass-shaped drum from West Africa, whose pitch can be regulated to mimic the tone and prosody of human speech. It has two drumheads connected by leather tension cords, which allow the player to change the pitch of the drum by scraping the cords between their arm and body. (NAN)
