The Civil Society for HIV and AIDS in Nigeria (CISHAN) has emphasised the need for a resilient and sustainable HIV response in Nigeria’s rural areas.
This appeal comes as the world marks World AIDS Day 2024.
Chairman of the Governing Council of CISHAN, Dr. Remi Obinatu, stated this in a statement on Monday in Lokoja, Kogi State.
He said the organisation urged the Nigerian Government, Civil Society Organisations, and stakeholders to scale up HIV testing and treatment services, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
CISHAN also stressed the importance of addressing social and economic determinants of health, including poverty, stigma, and discrimination, which exacerbated the HIV epidemic.
Furthermore, the organisation emphasised the need to promote human rights and gender equality, recognising these as essential to ending the AIDS epidemic. (NAN)
