The Katsina State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the kidnap of five female students of the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.
The police also confirmed that a man suspected to be an informant to the terrorists had been arrested.
Quoting a relation of one of the victims identified as Muhammad Fatima, Sahara Reporter says Fatima hails from Lafiagi town of Kwara State.
The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, also confirmed the incident and the arrest.
He said, “Yes, the incident happened. An arrest has been made. I cannot say anything more than that for now, as I am on my way to the institution. Our men are already on the ground there and are on top of the situation.”
According to the Sahara Reporters’ source, the terrorists on Wednesday morning invaded the students’ private lodge along Moriamoh Ajiri School at Dutsin-Ma, and abducted no fewer than five female students of the university resident in the area.
The online medium added that three of the abducted students hail from Kwara State, one is from Kano and another is from Niger State.
The students from Kwara were identified as Muhammad Fatima, Bello Fatima Zara, and Adam Rahmatallahi, but it did not name the two other students.
Again, PUNCH Online reports that residents said the terrorists invaded the private residence of the victims around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, shooting indiscriminately.
Some residents also claimed that all the five kidnapped students were female and were final-year students.
Attempts to get the comments of the management of the institution on the incident were futile, as the university spokesman, Habib Umar, was said to be at a management meeting, while his phone continuously rang out.
