Tragedy struck in Enugu as the Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA), Mr. Stephen Aniagu, was fatally shot by suspected assassins.
The incident occurred at Moses Ogbodo Junction near Topland Market in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government around 7 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Although, motive behind the killing is yet to be determined, eyewitnesses, told our correspondent that Aniagu was going home after the market closed when the assailants attacked.
His body was found riddled with bullets, and his car was missing, said the source.
The source described the scene, saying, “We heard gunshots and ran for safety. When we emerged from hiding, we found his lifeless body on the ground.”
When our reporter reached out to Enugu State Police Command for reaction, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, could not take his calls.
As at the time of filing this report, he had yet to respond to a text message for comments.
