Barely 24 hours after some gunmen attacked and killed two policemen in Enugu metropolis on Friday night, hoodlums again have killed four others in Enugu North Senatorial zone of the state.
The recent attacks occurred at Orba, former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s hometown in Udenu Local Government Area and Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Areas of the State.
According to reports, the gunmen attacked two operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and two officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), killing four of them, while others escaped with various degrees of injuries.
It may be recalled that two policemen on stop-and-search at Presidential Road in Enugu metropolis were attacked and killed by some gunmen on Friday night.
It was reliably gathered that the recent attack started from Premier Junction at Eha-Alumona in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State and proceeded to Army checkpoint at Orba in Udenu Local Government Area of the state at about 4 pm and lasted till 10pm on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
The hoodlums also attacked and set ablaze a Hillux van belonging to HRH Igwe Patrick Eze, popularly known as Igwe Waziri, the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu Local Area of the Sate.
The monarch was said to have escaped.
Patrol vehicle of the FRSC was equally burnt during the attack.
When the state Commissioner of police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, was contacted for the incident, he simply said “I am not aware of the incident. Please, contact the Police Public Relations Officer for your reaction.”
However, efforts to get the Command’s spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, were unsuccessful as he could not take his calls or respond to a text message inquiry as at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has vowed to apprehend the assailants with all the resources available to the government.
