How POS operator stole from customer’s bank account

A 39-year old man, Isaac Ihemekwele, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Karu Senior Magistrates Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing from a customer’s account.

Ihemekwele, a Point of Sale (PoS) operator whose address was not given, is being charged with criminal breach of trust and theft.

The defendant, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Helen Ochai, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Deborah Bawa, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on July 3, complaining that the defendant committed the offenses on May 25 by making dishonest withdrawals from the complainant’s account.

“The complainant visited the defendant’s PoS stand to withdraw N10,000. she later discovered that the defendant dishonestly withdrew N39,000 without her consent.

“During Police investigation, the defendant could not defend the allegations leveled against him,” she said.

Ochai said that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The Senior Magistrate, Imam Shettima, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and one surety in like sum.

Shettima adjourned the case until Sept. 25, for hearing.(NAN)
