How social media contributes to mental health issues -Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has emphasized the need for heightened attention to the mental and well-beings of all Nigerians.

Her call to action comes on the occasion of the 2023 World Mental Health Day celebrated under the theme: Mental Health is a Universal Human Right.

In her message, Senator Tinubu underscored the challenges of contemporary life, particularly the influence of social media and societal pressures.

These, she noted, have led to emotional and psychological burdens that are adversely impacting the mental well-being of many citizens.

She said: “It is crucial that we recognize the significance of mental health and take collective action to support those who are affected in one way or the other.”

She also stressed the importance of engaging in open and meaningful dialogues with the youth, which can enhance their mental health, help them manage their emotions and expectations, and as well, promote healthier relationships while ultimately improving their productivity.
