Three persons have been reportedly injured on Thursday in Benin, Edo State, when a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered vehicle exploded at a filling station in Benin.
It was gathered that the incident happened at the filling station’s gas station located in Aduwawa, on the Benin-Auchi road.
Sources told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the explosion was as a result of substandard conversion kits, including cylinders used in the installation and conversion of the engine of the vehicle.
The sources said the driver, who was the technician that allegedly installed the CNG kit, had driven to the filling station to test the efficacy of the installation when the explosion occurred.
The three casualties were said to be a station cleaner, pump attendant and one other person.
“The injured were rushed to a hospital,” a source said.
Experts warn that if your CNG installation isn’t done by a professional, it is a disaster waiting to happen.
“If the components are not fitted correctly or low-quality materials are used, gas leaks can occur, increasing the chances of fire or explosion.
“Poorly installed tanks or faulty connections can also lead to gas escaping into enclosed spaces, where it could ignite or cause health issues.
“This is why it’s essential to have CNG systems installed and maintained by certified professionals who follow all safety standards,” experts advised. (NAN)
