The police in Taraba State has confirmed the death of Bassey Sardauna, a secondary school teacher killed by students mid week, in Jalingo.
The deceased was a staff of Model Secondary School, Jalingo.
The Taraba State Command of the Nigerian Police Force spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed the incident, noting that the primary suspect, whom he described as an ex-student of the school, conspired with his friends in the school and stabbed the teacher, who was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where he was taken for treatment.
Usman said the command had commenced an investigation into the case, adding that efforts are ongoing to track all the students involved in the killing and urged anyone with useful information on their whereabouts to reach out to the Command.
The attack on the deceased, it was learnt, came following his recent decision to punish some students at the school. Those among the students who had been nursing ill feelings towards the teacher allegedly ambushed him on his way home.
A medical staff at the medical centre who also confirmed the incident said the teacher died a few hours after he was rushed to the hospital.
Some staff of the school who confirmed the incident alleged that the negative attitude of some of the students, especially those in senior classes, was becoming unbearable; and urged the police to bring all the students involved to book.
