Rev’d Dr. Joseph Olorunfemi, father of the late Greatness Olorunfemi, who was a victim of ‘one-chance’ robbers in Abuja, said he had a dream where he saw a pit around the family a day before his daughter died.
Rev’d Olorunfemi said his daughter planned to travel to the United States of America to commence her PhD in Microbiology before her death.
On September 26, Olorunfemi was reportedly stabbed and thrown out of a moving vehicle along the Maitama-Kubwa highway. It was alleged in a viral video that the medical team at the Maitama District Hospital, Abuja requested a police report and denied her treatment.
A voice in the video could be heard in the background saying she died 20 minutes later.
He disclosed this on Thursday at a press briefing organised by the Young African Leaders Initiative, Abuja, for multi-stakeholders engagement in pursuit of justice for the late Olorunfemi.
He said, “Greatness Abigail Olorunfemi was the beginning of my strength, my firstborn, my first daughter, well-learned, and still aspiring to learn. My longest last discussion with her was on Saturday 23rd of September at 4 p.m. in a conference call with two friends of the United States of America in respect of her ambition to further her education in 2024.
“There and then, she delivered her profile, and a decision was made that she would commence her PhD in Microbiology in July 2024. We ended the meeting with excitement, and by Monday, September 25, she began to supply the necessary documents to facilitate the relocation.
“I remember on Monday, September 25th, I had a dream and I saw a pit around the family, I summoned the family members for a prayer meeting online, including Greatness, and we prayed to avert the evil that was pending, not knowing that it would be irreversible. Well, God is not our errand boy who must do what we asked him to do, He will only do what he deems fit to do. He is the giver of life, and He takes life without anybody’s permission.”
The father said he received a rude shock on September 28, to come to Maitama District Hospital, Abuja where the late Greatness was said to be receiving treatment.
“I picked the next available flight to Abuja where I met Pastor Adedayo of Elevation Church and the representatives of the Family Worship Centre and Ignite Intercessory Fellowship, Abuja who were already waiting for me at the General Hospital,” he added.
While there are different narrations of the incident from the driver who took Greatness to the hospital and the hospital, the father said being denied immediate treatment by the hospital was “inhuman, cruel, injustice, negligence, and disregard for human life.”
He noted that if the demand for police reports continues, it will have negative implications for the society.
“My daughter has died, myself, and the entire family have accepted God’s verdict. But demanding and the quest for justice as assured by the investigating unit of the Nigerian Police, Abuja, is only for the benefits of our nation because we do not know whose turn it may be tomorrow,” he stated.
Olorunfemi appealed to aggrieved friends, families, colleagues, church members, and organisations to sue for peace and allow the government to carry on its investigation.
“There is no personal bias or witch-hunting, the investigation will help our government on how to ensure that the society is safe for living and that workers in our hospitals respect the laws and victims of violence, robbery, and accident should be treated without condition or protocols. Therefore, I appeal to all friends, families, colleagues, church members, and organisations that have been grieved to sue for peace and allow the government to carry on their investigation accordingly
“We cannot bring Greatness back to life but actions and decisions can be made to correct errors in our medical organisations, as well as bring positive change to the security systems, this could serve as one of the legacies for the death of my daughter,” he added.
Olorunfemi said he would continue the legacy the late daughter left behind by improving the lives of teenagers, less privileged, and young adults.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of YALI Network, Abuja, Moyosoluwa Oladayo said the organisation has commenced a two-week campaign to ensure that the incident birth a desired country.
Oladayo, however, called for a thorough and independent investigation regarding Greatness’ death.
“We continue to seek justice for Greatness and those that have lost their lives at the hands of these ‘one chance’ syndicates and other criminal gangs. We call for a thorough and independent investigation into the allegation against Maitama General Hospital. If people can come to share their testimony, that would be fine.”
She said severe punishment should be given to anyone found guilty of ‘one chance,’ kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder.
“We call the government to duly pay a courtesy visit to the family of late Greatness, To properly carry them along in the entire process as against the current situation of getting updates via news and online posts about decisions being made with regards their daughter’s case.
“The country has failed to save a global leader and put the family in a total state of deep sadness and confusion about how to forge ahead by losing a first child as well as the family breadwinner. We cannot compensate them for this loss, but we can show that we genuinely care beyond typing behind keypads.
“It is too bad that Abuja is not projected as a modern Federal Capital city. No modern motor park, no modern bus stop, no modern transport system in the 21st century.
“Our plea is that we collectively continue to intensify advocacy efforts in defense of the truth behind the case of Greatness Olorunfemi until Justice prevails for her and many untold victims of national decadence.
We seek a safe and secure society for all. We seek a society where people matter,” she declared.
