Grammy Awards winning singer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, says if not for the sake of his mother, singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, would have spent a long time in jail.
While acknowledging mothers’ efforts, he warned the Akpi musician to ‘go and sin no more.’
Burna Boy notes that his decision to have him released was borne out of his regard for Speed Darlington’s mom, who had pleaded with the Grammy winner on her son’s behalf.
The controversial Akpi musician was released to his lawyer Deji Adeyanju after meeting conditions stipulated by Police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s Department in the Guzape area of Abuja.
It may be recalled that Speed Darlington, in a trending video, had said that Burna Boy won the Grammy Award after his association with the embattled American music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
‘Diddy’ Combs, 54, was arrested by federal agents at a New York City hotel on an indictment charging him with a racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation for purposes of prostitution, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan said.
Combs, famous for his music career, Bad Boy Records label and the MTV reality television programme ‘Making the Band,’ could face life in prison if convicted.
Combs pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the criminal charges on Tuesday, Sept. 17, in federal court in Manhattan.
The indictment comes months after several civil lawsuits that began in November 2023 when Combs’ one-time girlfriend, the singer Cassie, accused him of sexually and physically assaulting her during their relationship.
Earlier in March, Federal agents found firearms and at least a thousand bottles of baby oil during searches of properties belonging to Sean “Diddy” Combs in both Los Angeles and Miami, three sources familiar with the matter said Tuesday.
After his arrest, Speed Darlington’s mother went on social media appealing to Burna Boy to forgive her son.
in response, Burna had said: “Seeing your mom on her knees begging me to release you got me emotional. I cherish all the moms out there.
“For over 20 years of life, I worked hard, dropping classics and getting zero attention. Many told me to give up and chase a better career. Many made mockery of me and said music wasn’t my thing.
“Today after so many years of putting in work, I’m a successful artist and one unfortunate dude somewhere is on the internet, saying abominable things about my career simply because he has a mouth.
“If not of [sic] your mama, you would’ve stayed in jail for the exact number of years I stayed underground as an artiste.
“Go home to Mommy and sin no more.”
