Indigent women in Enugu receive free medical care

Full Life Specialist Hospital in Enugu has provided free medical care to approximately 1,000 women, alongside infants, girls, and widows, during the Well Women 2024 Free Medical Outreach.

The week long event held in partnership with Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, offered comprehensive medical services.

The services include: “Medical and surgical consultations, Obstetrics and gynecology consultations, Pediatric care for girl children, Dental, dermatology, and ENT consultations, Laboratory tests, free medication, X-rays, and breast examinations, Health talks, interactive sessions, and ultrasound scans.”

Dr. Goodness Nwabueze, Managing Director of Full Life Specialist Hospital, speaking on the essence of the programme at the hospital on Tuesday, explained that the annual outreach aims to support underprivileged women in understanding and managing their health.

“This year’s event drew over 980 participants from diverse backgrounds,” said adding, “it is part of the hospital’s ways of giving back to the society in line with the principles that guide the corporate social responsibility of business organisations in Nigeria”.

Dr. Nwabueze also spoke on the importance of living a healthy life, especially for women, who she said are creators of humans.

She commended the management of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, led by Architect Chibuikem Onyekachi, for always giving their yearly free medical exercise the needed support, adding that over 95% of the entire logistics used for the programme were provided by the company.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, Mr Chibuikem Onyekachi, said they chose to partner with the hospital owing to their impeccable track record of decency and commitment to saving lives.

He stated “the turnout for this year’s exercise is marvellous. I am happy that many lives have been saved while many who have lost hopes have been renewed”.

Also speaking, the Programme Officer of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Mrs Nnenna Anozie, commended the management of Full Life Specialist Hospital and Powell Homes and Shelters Limited for their commitment to improving the welfare of the people, especially women.

She stated “this exercise, has immensely saved a lot of souls and provided hope to many families. The outreach demonstrated the importance of prioritizing women’s health and ensuring they have access to free and quality medical care, particularly in challenging economic times.”

Anozie, however, appealed to other organisations and well-meaning individuals to emulate this noble initiative by supporting similar programmes that address the healthcare needs of women and children, especially the underprivileged.

She noted “investments in women’s health have a ripple effect on the overall well-being of society.”

The legal luminary also used the opportunity to sensitize women on their rights, where she also provided clues on gender-based violence, highlighting the importance of its awareness among women.

The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, describing the outreach as a blessing during a time of need. Many shared how the exercise provided them with an opportunity to access medical care they had been postponing due to financial constraints.

They noted that the quality of care they received, coupled with the interactive health sessions, empowered them with knowledge to better manage their health and that of their families.

Some mothers, who brought their daughters for pediatric consultations, shared how relieved they felt after their children received proper diagnoses and treatments.

Others appreciated the organizers for including services like laboratory tests and free medications, which they described as a lifeline for those who cannot afford the high costs of healthcare. Many of them expressed hopes that such initiatives would be sustained to continue impacting lives positively.
