A 26-year-old Kenyan Instagram model, Starlet Wahu, was allegedly stabbed to death by a man identified as John Matara.
Reports indicate that Starlet had met the suspect on a dating app, and on January 3, 2024, the couple arrived at Papino Apartments in Nairobi, to spend the night.
The following morning, a security guard allegedly saw John Matara hastily leaving the premises with blood-stained clothes. When he reported this to the apartment owner, Florence Ngina, she used a spare key to open the room and discovered Starlet’s body in a pool of blood.
A report was filed at South B police station, and during a room search by DCI officers, they allegedly found HIV testing kits, used condoms, marijuana, a bottle of alcohol, and a blood-stained kitchen knife suspected to be the murder weapon.
Starlet’s body was subsequently moved to City Mortuary.
In the course of the investigation, the police used the deceased’s phone to track down the suspect to Mbagathi County Hospital, where he was reportedly receiving treatment for a stab wound. Following his arrest, John allegedly admitted to stabbing Starlet in self-defense.
The police report indicates that Starlet was stabbed in the head and right thigh during the incident, and an autopsy report showed that she bled to death.
After Starlet’s murder gained public attention, more women have come forward to share their near-death experiences with John.
Authorities are currently investigating him for suspected serial killings of women in and around Nairobi.
Starlet was laid to rest at her family home in Kamulu last Saturday, and the case continues further investigation.
